Arenal Volcano Day

 Hey Parents and Family,

This is the last full day and it has been a great trip up so far. The kids had the chance to raft the Pacuare River with a great water level, sunny day, and full of adventure. We always try to do something a little special for the Ridgefield group so this time we had our friend from Venezuela who is a chef come in and do an amazing grilling of all sorts of meets. Your kids can eat!

Last night we took them to the hotsprings and they had the chance to relax at the Manoa Resort at the base of the Arenal Volcano.

Today we will be visiting the sustainable farm of Don Juan which is a tourism attraction that has grown over the years but started with our first Ridgefield group as a local farmer we knew. His teaching philosophy was tried and tested as he did just fine during the pandemic able to put is sustainable farm, living off the grid, and maintaing some of the best tasting meals for over 25 families during the pandemic.

La Fortuna is one of our busiest tourist areas of Costa Rica and during the pandemic it was a ghost town. Much of the workforce comes from San Jose or Nicaragua and most returned back to farming. While tourism is certainly back the Ridgefield group is a nice addition to the momentum in the area for sure as this small town comes back to life.

We try to teach the students about Responsible tourism and the small affects they can have when traveling just investigating a little and spending their money in the right places when possible.

In the afternoon it is over to the Skytrek which is one of the largest ziplines in the Americas. Its a doozy but it also has a great tram ride so if anyone doesnt want to do it we have a solid option B. They did the canopy tour at the lodge but its someone different. Canopy tour is more educational about being a biologist in the trees and how much of the life in the rainforest can be found in the canopy. The zipline is more of a thrill ride.

It really has been a great trip and again a bit sur-real to be back doing what we love to do!

Hope everyone is having a great week and if you could send an email to Larry Page telling him his app for blogger.com (owned by google) is worthless its his fault my previous post were not arriving from the lodge.

Pura Vida,

Tom
